KAMPALA. Kabale District Woman member of Parliament Hon. Enid Origumisiriza has commended Tania's Reusable Pads initiative for its profound impact on girls in rural areas, describing it as a game-changer in the fight to keep girls in school.

Hon. Origumisiriza made the remarks yesterday, Thursday 16th October 2026, at Tania's "Dignity for her" Fundraising Dinner held at Sheraton Hotel, Kampala.

The dinner, organized under the theme "Confidence in Comfort" and the rallying call "Come,Give,Make a Difference", is part of a bold national campaign that seeks to raise 10,000 reusable sanitary pads for each of Uganda's districts, translating into a total of 1.46 million pads.

According to Tania, the initiative is aimed at ending period poverty, restoring dignity, and ensuring that no girl drops out of school because of menstruation. The campaign products are proudly manufactured in Uganda at the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI), Namanve, under Tania's brand "Confidence in Comfort", making it a truly local solution to a national challenge.

Delivering her address under the session "Field Voices and Lived Experiences", Hon. Origumisiriza, appreciated Tania for the initiative. She noted that lack of access to affordable and hygienic menstrual products remains one of the biggest yet silent barriers to education for girls in rural Uganda, especially in hard-to-reach sub-counties in the Kigezi region.

Drawing from her lived experiences as Woman MP, Hon. Origumisiriza said she has witnessed firsthand how girls miss school for days every month, which affects their performance and self-esteem.

In her remarks, she further congratulated the organizers for the fundraising initiative, emphasizing that menstruation should never hinder a girl's access to education, self-confidence, or her ability to pursue her dreams.

The event was headlined by renowned entrepreneur, human rights activist and motivational speaker Frank Gashumba, who served as the Keynote Speaker and challenged Ugandans to invest in the girl-child as an investment in the nation's future.

Also speaking at the event was celebrated medical doctor, investor and former Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Dr. Maggie Kigozi, who shared her insights on women empowerment, health and leadership.

Among other key dignitaries in attendance were Hon. Mathias Mwesigwa Rwabugumi, Member of Parliament for Rubabo County, Rukungiri District, and Hon. Mafabi Asha Nabulo, Woman MP for Sironko District, who both applauded and supported the initiative.

The glamorous evening climaxed with the cutting of a cake to celebrate the campaign's milestone, and Hon. Enid Origumisiriza was specially recognized and presented with gifts of appreciation for her unwavering commitment and support towards the girl-child cause and women empowerment in Uganda.

Speaking to our news reporter after the event, Hon. Origumisiriza reiterated her commitment to championing menstrual hygiene in Parliament and to ensuring that government policies prioritize affordable sanitary products for all school-going girls.

The Dignity for Her campaign continues to call upon well-wishers, corporate companies and leaders to contribute towards the 1.46 million pads target.
